While at Sony, I was given the assignment to develop a theme—a background animation for the home screen. Conceptually, I knew I wanted something lo-fi. I thought of paper illustrations and the famous Japanese woodblock print “The Great Wave off Kanagawa”.
My process started with sketches and I created an actual physical layout of my idea. I used a Cameo cut printer to make precision paper cutouts of my Illustrator vectors. I photographed the elements, optimized them for animation, then created a digitally animated prototype. The end result was finalized by the Sony engineering team.
